What Does Squat 2 Depth Mean?
What does Squat 2 Depth mean? That seems to be the question I get the most from non lifters who see me wearing our apparel. To those folks I give the simple definition of squatting to depth as oppose to half squatting when it comes to performance and competition.
To lifters and those well versed in the world of powerlifting, Squat 2 Depth is a lot easier to understand. It's the meaning of breaking parallel (depending on the Fed) in order to qualify the squat movement as a complete lift earning white lights. It's something that's pushed heavily in our sport, something we're judged on in competition, and something that is heavily criticized by the self-certified IG powerlifting judges. It's a badge of honor in some way to show that we are leaving no doubt and no question on whether our lift is good. Taking it out of the judges hands per say.
However, there's yet another meaning to the name Squat 2 Depth. A more metaphorical meaning in the way we deal with life. If you're going to do something, do it with 100% commitment and conviction. Take control of what you can and avoid any and all shortcuts in life. In competition, we don't get half credit or points for an incomplete lift. Sometimes you may sneak away with one by taking that shortcut, but that won't always be the case, especially when it matters most.
Squat 2 Depth is more than just a lifting term. It's definitely a way to look at life. If you're going to do something, go hard. If you're going to do something, do it right. If you're going to do something, don't take shortcuts. Always commit. Always give 100%. Always aim for perfection. And Always Squat 2 Depth!
